The largest Ganesh statues, on display to the public, are usually immersed on Anant Chaturdasi - 11 days after the first day of the Ganesh festival. Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day Hindu festival celebrated to honor the God Ganesha's birthday. He is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Ganesha is known by 108 different names and is the Lord of arts and sciences and the deva of wisdom. He is honored at the start of rituals and ceremonies as he's considered the God of beginnings. He's widely and dearly referred to as Ganapati or Vinayaka.  The festival begins on Shukla Chaturthi which is the fourth day of the waxing moon period and ends on the 14th day of the waxing moon period known as Anant Chaturdashi. Chinchpokli & Parel Ganesh Idol Workshop The colorful Mumbai Ganesh idols, which are displayed all over the city during the annual Ganesh Chaturthi festival, are an awe-inspiring sight. It's natural to wonder about how they're made and the amount of work that's gone into creating them. If you're interested in finding out, it's possible to see the statues being crafted.  The skill is handed down from generation to generation, plus many migrants also come to Mumbai to help in the labor intensive process. It gets underway around three months before the festival takes place.
