Harishchandra Gad

Harishchandragad is one of the oldest leading forts in the Sahyadris. The existence of Microlithic man has been discovered here. The fort is estimated to be built during the reign of Kalchuri and references about Harishchandragad can be found in various manuscripts like Skandapurana & Matsyapurana. It is said that the great sage Changdev used to meditate in the caves present here in the 14th century. 



Idols of Lord Vishnu which are carved in the 11th century are found in the caves beside the temple of Harishchandreshwar. The carvings in the Harishchandreshwar temple and in Kedareshwar cave denote that the fort belongs to medieval period. The fort has played a major role in guarding the Malshej Ghat region and the surrounding areas. Later, the fort was captured by Moghuls which was then captured by the Marathas in 1747.

- Catch the  Train for Kasara from Mumbai CST, which start at 10:50 pm (Time Table Given Below)
23 Jul - 2016 - Friday
- Get down at Kasara Station by 1:18 am
- Move towards Paachnai Base village, by private vehicle
- Reach Paachnai By 5:00 am
- Get Fresh & have breakfast
- Start the Trek and Reach Harishchandra by 9:30 am
- Explore the Area and have Lunch.
- Start descend by 1:30 pm
- Reach Pachai & move towards kasara.
- Reach Kasara & move towards respective destinations.

 - Smoking and Drinking alcohol during, Photo-walk is strictly prohibited if anyone found doing that will be expelled from Photo-walk without refund.

 - Respect the Heritage and culture. Do Not Litter, Participants are requested to carry the waste back to the city and dispose it off in dustbins.

 - Leader’s decision will be final and binding on all members. No Arguments will be entertained.
