Moments Shoot's Photo Tour to "Coorg" The Scotland of India on 2-5 Oct 2014
Coorg
Madikeri is the picturesque town of Kodagu (also called Coorg), the land of coffee, cardamom, colonels and the Cauvery. The headquarters of Kodagu district, it is located in a beautiful hilly setting surrounded by the forest slopes of the Western Ghats. Here, time seems to have stood still. Dotted with a cluster of red-roofed dwellings and a bustling bazaar, the town, situated at an elevation of 1,525 m, has a charming old-world look.
Madeikeri Fort
The Palace of the erstwhile kings located inside the Fort, now houses the offices of the Deputy Commissioner. The brick and mortar Palace was built in 1814 by Lingarajendra Wodeyar II.The strong fort of Mercara explains the tale of bravery and battle. In the inner Fort, a temple of Virabhadra was removed by the British in 1855 and in its place built an Anglican Church. The Church, in Gothic style, with color stained glasses has now been converted into a museum. Two life-size elephants made of mortar, catch the eye of the visitor on entering the Fort. The other buildings inside the fort include the Mahatma Gandhi Public Library, the Kote Maha Ganapathi temple and the district prison.
Rajas Seat
It is known to be one of the favorite spot for relaxing and revitalizing your mind and body. It is one the best tourist place. Where people flaunt there to watch the beautiful sunrise & sunset and the mist covered greenery exactly like a Disney world, early in the morning and late at night. It is a beautiful garden with seasonal colorful flowers and a 'Rajas seat'.
Dubare
Dubare is an elephant camp located on the banks of the holy river cauvery. It is one of the wild destination in coorg. The Karnataka forest department has so many elephants captured and tamed. It is one of the famous elephant training camp. It is an island with a wonderful river with a cool and pleasant atmosphere with so many trees around. Totally out of the busy world, into a calm and pleasant place.
You can also wet yourself in water and have great fun.You can walk on the rocks and splash water against your friends, totally having fun.
Abbey Falls
Tucked away between private coffee and spice estates, abbey Falls offers a splendid backdrop for picnics. As you make your way past stocky coffee bushes and tall trees entwined with pepper vines, the falls make a sudden and dramatic appearance as they cascade their way down steps into limpid pools to join the river Cauvery.
Bhagamandala temple
This is the confluence of three rivers: Cauvery, Kanika and sujyothi. Among many small shrines dedicated to various gods, the Bhagamandeshwara temple, standing in a large courtyard surrounded by Kerala-style temples is the most impressive. Bhagamandala is known for its apiaries and Kodagu honey.
Nalknad palace
Nalknad palace was built by Kodava King Dodda Viraraja in 1792 A.D. It is situated the foothill of Tadiyandamol, the highest peak of Kodagu (near Kakkabe village). It is a two storeyed building, supposed to be the summer palace of the Kodava kings.
The guard of the palace volunteered to take us around the palace. The palace mesmerizes everybody with its exquisite wall paintings, intricate wooden carvings. The palace has a Darbar hall on the first floor, but don’t be fascinated by the paintings on the roof since it was done by some film crew few years ago for their film shoot. At that time the palace was yet to be taken over for renovation by government. It is sad to see such a place being tampered for one’s personal benefit.

Pictures are very beautiful. Thanks for sharing. The hill station has some interesting treks such as Pushpagiri, Tadiandamol and Brahmagiri Peaks which are quite challenging and blessed with oodles of natural beauty. However, outdoor activities go beyond trekking here. You can try angling in Kaveri River and golfing at Coorg Golf Links (Bittangala), Golf Course (Pollibetta) and Mercara Downs (Mercara). An ideal summer retreat, Coorg (Kodagu) tourism offers some wonderful moments of relaxation and rejuvenation. Check out all best places to visit in Coorg also.
