Yeoor Hills (or also known as Mama Bhanja Hills) is a hill station of Thanaites. This naturally beautiful and pollution free area attracts lot of people. It is an unspoiled area, carpeted by natural foliage and fauna. Yeoor Hills is home to about 78 known species of birds and about 12 different species of animals. Madh Fort In the beginning of the 17th century, as the Portuguese started acquiring Salsette and Versova, they built the Madh fort. The records of 1720, mention that the Madh fort is very narrow and deep. It is also said to have the best bay on the coastline. In 1728, Madh fort was functioning poorly. A treaty was signed between Marathas and Portuguese in 1732 in which the Marathas demanded the handover of Versova. In 1774, it again fell into the hands of Portuguese and later at the beginning of 19th century, when the military colleges at Colaba and Mahim were closed down, Madh became the training centre for new recruits. Mumbra Devi Temple Mumbra Devi Temple is situated in Parsik Hill. It is a temple situated at a height of 210 meters appx above sea level. One has to climb numerous steps in order to reach temple. An average person can reach the temple under 20 mins. The Mumbra Devi temple can be seen from the local train as the the train approaches Mumbra. It looks as if its near but is at a great height. One can see whole plains from the temple. The temple is made in rocks and now concrete structures are built.
